Recovery from a substance abuse disorder doesn’t need to be a journey that you face alone. With a partial hospitalization program (PHP), you can get the best of both worlds: intensive medical care from expert professionals and the chance to recover at home, supported by family and friends. A partial hospitalization program is often less expensive than residential treatments and allows the patient to comfortably reconnect with the community and everyday life. If you or a loved one struggles with addiction, you might consider the unique benefits of a partial hospitalization program at Memphis Recovery Centers (MRC).
Addiction recovery looks different for everybody. Depending on the case history and severity of symptoms, the patient may require detox treatment, counseling, a residential facility, or less comprehensive support. To learn more about MRC’s programs and services, contact us today at 901-272-7751.
What Happens in a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)?
A partial hospitalization program balances the client’s need for structure and routine with a sense of accountability and independent living. In most cases, the patient visits the treatment center during the day for individual therapy or group therapy, medical evaluation, progress assessment, and life skills counseling but returns to their home environment at the end of the day. Sometimes, if the client has school or a job, the treatment may occur in the evenings, as per the patient’s convenience and needs.
Typically, the patient receives treatment for six hours per day, five days a week. They gain vital skills and resources to heal from their addiction and cope with other co-occurring disorders.
3 Benefits of a Partial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program is different from residential or inpatient treatment. Some of the benefits of PHP at Memphis Recovery Centers include:
1. Gives You the Option of Staying at Home with Family
When you enroll in a PHP at Memphis Recovery Centers, you do not have to stay at the treatment facility or a community house, where you are completely cut off from the outside world. Instead, you can stay and recover from the comfort of your own home and be assisted by your loved ones. The family and community can take a more active part in your healing journey and give you emotional, social, and material support.
2. Helps You Balance Everyday Responsibilities with Healing
A PHP will teach you to balance your real-life duties with your recovery treatment. By adhering to a customized (but fixed) schedule, you will slowly be able to reconnect with society, attend school, keep a job and stay in touch with friends and family.
3. More Affordable and Accessible than Residential Treatment
For many clients, intensive residential treatment is simply not an option, owing to the high costs of hospitalization. Circumstances and other responsibilities may also make it difficult for someone to move to a rehab facility. A PHP is thus a more affordable and accessible option that allows you to receive high-quality care and proper treatment at your own home.
Is a PHP the Right Option for You?
While PHP is soon becoming a popular option for those in recovery, it is important to determine if it is the right choice for you or the loved one you’re seeking help for. A PHP for addiction may be the best course of action if the patient:
- Is medically stable and doesn’t need 24-hour supervision
- Has symptoms that aren’t extreme or severe
- Requires intensive and structured treatment from medical professionals
- Needs help and support for behavioral health issues
- Cannot afford the residential costs
- Cannot be hospitalized due to other factors and responsibilities
- Has already undergone residential treatment
- Needs a smooth transition to resume daily life
